How We Got Into VIP-X

A couple of weeks ago one of our advisors told us, "hey Wharton is running this accelerator in SF, it's a long shot but you should try anyway." So we threw together a deck and sent off our application. A week ago we get an email, "you're invited to join us for an in-person pitch." We're like, "shit. we have to fly to SF now." And so we book a last minute flight, but low and behold, we get delayed and don't make our flight.

We're like "crap, let's send an email and see if they'll make an accommodation for us." We pray, and then I get an email "sure, jump on a Zoom call later."

Immediately I send a text to Jerry, "We're in, I'm taking the train down to Philly and we'll pitch together in person over Zoom."

Honestly the pitch felt like a shamble. We only gave ourselves 2 hours to prep and we never make it through all our slides. But somehow, miraculously, we pull through in the interview portion. Jerry even cracks a joke about being "Chief Research Officer for now."

But now one week later, we get another email saying "Congratulations, you're in, also here's some surprise funding." And the rest is history. We're moving to SF!

See you all on the other side.
